American Heart Association: PEORIA HEART OF GOLD BALL
May 14, 2022 | Pere Marquette

The American Heart Association hosted its Peoria Heart of Gold Ball at the Pere Marquette on May 14. This year’s Heart Ball attracted more than 300 guests from Peoria’s business, medical, social and media communities. The funds raised through the Heart Ball support medical research projects and education and community programs that fight heart disease and stroke.

This year’s event was chaired by Kent and Lorna Schlink. Kent is a 25-year heart transplant recipient. He was joined by Doris Thomas, a 35-year heart transplant recipient who just celebrated her 91st birthday earlier in the week.

The evening’s festivities were celebrated with cocktails and a silent and live auction, followed by an elegant dinner.  The live auction was hosted by Jodi Bearce. During the dinner program, the Heart Association shared the inspiring story of hope and the audience participated in a raise the paddle to share gifts to celebrate survivors and also to honor loved ones who were take too soon from heart disease or stroke.

The American Heart Association would like to thank the leading Peoria Heart Ball sponsors: OSF, Bearce Family, Caterpillar, CEFCU, Cullinan Properties.

Creatures of Light: OPENING RECEPTION & PRESS CONFERENCE
May 26 & 27, 2022 | Peoria Riverfront Museum

Luminous crystal jellies, anglerfish dangling flashing lures, a cave ceiling draped with glittering glowworms, giant fireflies, radiant fungus and marine plankton emitting “sea sparkle” so bright it can be tracked by satellite, they’re all featured in “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence,” May 28 through Sept. 5, 2022 at Peoria Riverfront Museum.

“Creatures of Light,” created by the American Museum of Natural History, New York, illuminates the worlds of the extraordinary organisms that flash, sparkle and glimmer by generating light, called bioluminescence, exploring how and why they glow, from the deep sea to Midwest backyards.

“Creatures of Light” sponsors: PNC, UnityPoint Health, OSF HealthCare and Corporate Visionary Society Council.

CASA: SIP SAVOR SMOKE EVENT
June 9, 2022 | Country club of Peoria

CASA, Sip Savor Smoke, was met with overwhelming success. The event venue was moved to the Country Club of Peoria to accommodate the larger group of nearly 100 attendees. This event consisted of the pairing of hand-selected spirits with carefully crafted dishes that complemented each other beautifully. The sharing of first-hand experiences of what foster care truly looks like by our volunteers and board members sheds light on the growing need our community has for CASA volunteers. After a rousing live auction, guests were invited outside to enjoy cigars and comradery in support of the CASA mission. The evening was themed around Winston Churchill, with the focus on what CASA of the Tenth Judicial Circuit does to help change a child’s story.
