Exhibit A Gallery in Peoria Heights will be showcasing the artwork of Sherri Burritt during the month of September. In her exhibit entitled “A Light Story,” Burritt’s work shares a theme—all hinted at in its title. “I realized the common thread through the paintings is the strong light in each piece,” she suggests. Though light may connect these works, their subject matter is rich and diverse, portraying an eclectic range of florals, street scenes and waterscapes. “In all of these paintings, I was attracted to the light and shadows,” she adds. “And the more extreme, the better.”
Flowers are especially important to Burritt, which is reflected in her work. “I have an English rose garden and marvel at the delicate petals. To bring them alive on my canvas, I place high attention on careful color mixing with minute adjustments for value, color and temperature,” she explains. While this is certainly not an easy task for the artist, it is a challenge that Burritt enjoys.
Her street scenes are all based on photos she has taken, and as she puts them to canvas, the viewer is invited to visit her memories of days past. Equally enthralling are her waterscapes, which reflect the look, feel and even the sound of water. “I’ve studied the way light falls on the ripples of waves and the wakes from boats,” she points out. “I now paint more boats and enjoy every minute.”
Burritt’s oil paintings will be on display September 3-29, 2021. In October, Exhibit A will feature the work of Bob Doucette in his “Muse & Amuse” show, where he invites us to “muse with me about what amuses me and what has inspired me.” Learn more about the artist at sherriburritt.com. PM
