Comcast has opened six new, WiFi-connected “Lift Zones” at Peoria-area community centers. Lift Zones are spaces where students and families can go online for distance learning, to do homework, learn new digital skills or search for employment. The new Lift Zones are located at the George Washington Carver Community Center, Boys & Girls Club of Pekin, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Peoria (two locations), Nannie M. Johnson Community Center and Richland Farms Community Center.
In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, these spaces are more important than ever. “The pandemic has further demonstrated that digital literacy and internet access are necessities for our community,” notes Peoria Mayor Rita Ali. “We are pleased to have Lift Zones in Peoria to help students and families connect to the internet for school, work and building digital skills.” PM
