The U.S. Department of Education is awarding a Business and International Education (BIE) grant of $85,500 to the Turner Center for Entrepreneurship at Bradley University. Just over 20 of these highly competitive grants were given in the U.S., and only three were awarded in Illinois. Bradley received the highest amount of funding in the state.
The grant will provide funding to Bradley’s Southeast Asia (SEA) Change project, which seeks to increase trade opportunities in the Southeast Asia region through training and education. For area businesses, these efforts will culminate in a trade mission to meet potential partners and customers, while Bradley faculty and students will have opportunities to pursue research, intercultural collaborations, study abroad programs and internships in the region.
“This is going to give all of the colleges across campus an opportunity to impact the careers of our students,” notes SEA Change project manager Jim Ryan, “and directly contribute to the international success of local businesses.” Collaborating partners include the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council, Illinois Office of Trade and Investment, Peoria Area World Affairs Council and the U.S. Commercial Service. An additional $91,000 is expected to be awarded in year two of the project. PM
