Hale Memorial Church on West Main Street in Peoria

KDB Group has purchased the historic Hale Memorial Church at Main and High streets in Peoria. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the church requires major repairs to restore its architectural and historical significance. KDB Group was negotiating purchase of the property when a Utah couple bought it sight unseen. The two parties began communicating and KDB Group agreed to cover the couple’s purchase costs, plus a bit more. Future plans for the building have yet to be determined, but the transaction saves it from imminent demolition.

The church is named after Asahel Hale, who moved to Peoria from Vermont in 1831. Hale’s brother, William, was Peoria’s first mayor. When Asahel passed away, he left half of his estate to the construction of a Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1868, Hale Chapel was built, so named in his honor.
