As a contract therapist for the Tazewell/Woodford County Children’s Advocacy Center, Lucinda McArthur provides crisis therapy, court preparation and advocacy to child and adolescent victims of sexual and extreme physical abuse. She also provides consultations to local law enforcement agencies, the Office of the State’s Attorney, the Department of Social Services and community agencies.
As part of her role as a contract therapist, McArthur helps child victims and their families get specialized services, including court advocacy and medical and mental health services as necessary. Through her dedication to the Children’s Advocacy Center, she enriches the lives of youth by being a positive influence, increasing their opportunities for the future.
McArthur is an active volunteer in the community and has served in a leadership position with the Junior League of Peoria since 1999. Her commitments to the League have been strong and unwavering throughout the past nine years, and she always answers the call to help. She is often the silent, behind-the-scenes person who gives much and receives little recognition.
For the past three years, McArthur has been instrumental in coordinating Dueling Pianos, a major League fundraiser which provides funding for community needs in Peoria. She is also very active in Julep’s Closet, an annual clothing and household items sale that provides much-needed merchandise at a reasonable cost for Peoria-area residents. She participates in the Kickapoo Council of the Girl Scouts’ special events and fundraisers, and is dedicated to the Cinderella Project at Manual High School. She has also volunteered as a model for the Salvation Army Style Show for the past two years.
To recognize her dedication and hard work, McArthur was awarded the Junior League 2008 Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2007, she received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for contributing 534 hours of volunteer service.
Lucinda McArthur is a person who strives for excellence and believes volunteer service is the key to building a stronger community. She continuously seeks opportunities to improve the lives of those around her. iBi
