Ten Reasons to Shop Locally

As the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear, here are some reminders of the reasons to take advantage of the excellent shopping opportunities we have right here in our region.

  • Support the local economy. Local dollars mean jobs for the folks right here-your neighbors, friends, and family. In turn, they spend their money with other local businesses. Tax revenues go to local units of government, which helps keep local property tax levels constant and supports local schools.
  • Variety and selection. From the Asian Emporium to Z Shoes, our community offers an enormous variety of goods and services. If traditional gifts aren't your bag, try giving the gift of travel or a night out. And don't forget to buy local when shopping for all of your holiday decorating and entertaining needs. The Chamber Business Directory lists an even dozen catering businesses and even more bakers, decorators, and florists.
  • Shopping experience. Do you want to dash in for just those special items or spend the day exploring unique shops and restaurants? The Peoria area really does have it all. Nose around the quaint, clever shops of Peoria Heights or Washington Square or roam Northwoods Mall and the Shoppes at Grand Prairie.
  • Local charm and flavor. Many local retailers offer merchandise created right here or teach you how to make your own. The Peoria Art Guild offers a variety of classes and workshops to help you create something special. If you're searching for a truly unique gift, check out one of the many shops offering goods from local artists and craftspeople.
  • Support the businesses that support each other. The Chamber of Commerce is an association of businesses working together to build a stronger business community. These men and women actively volunteer and provide support to help our region thrive. When searching for a product or service, visit the Chamber Web site business directory first.
  • Competitive prices. Businesses throughout our region know you have a variety of choices when making a purchase. Being competitive is what keeps them in business. You'll find great items at affordable prices right here.
  • Customer service served up with Midwestern values. Our Peoria region is known for hospitality, and this is especially true in the area of customer service. Owners and employees alike strive to greet area customers with a friendly, caring manner. The staff appreciates you knowing their names just as you appreciate being acknowledged by name when making a purchase. How often have you visited another region, waited in line, paid your bill, and been sent on your way without so much as a "thank you"?
  • Regional shopping destination. The Peoria area and its surrounding communities bring folks by the busload to shop right here, so why not you? Join one of the shopping tours offered by the Convention and Visitors Bureau, or organize one yourself for family and friends. Rediscover the joy of holiday shopping.
  • Strong businesses build strong communities. The strength of our community lies in the success of our businesses. By shopping with our local businesses, you're helping provide a better quality of life, with more opportunities for everyone in the region.
  • Give locally too. Local charities need our support. Don't forget to include a gift to your favorite local charity this season. IBI
