Dr. Deepak Taneja is a pulmonary/critical care specialist at the Illinois Lung & Critical Care Institute, caring for patients across the Greater Peoria region, including outpatient clinics in Peoria, Bloomington and Kewanee and the Intensive Care Unit at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. With a particular interest in patients who suffer strokes and acute brain injury from cardiac arrest, Dr. Taneja goes above and beyond to provide the best care possible, guiding his staff through challenging conflicts and difficult diagnoses while focusing on patient needs.
Among his top priorities at OSF, Dr. Taneja is chair of the Cardiac Arrest Committee and Medical Director of the Medical Intermediate Care Unit, Critical Care Services and Targeted Temperature Management Committee. His efforts have been the foundation of success in multiple arenas at OSF, including the Resuscitation, ECMO and Therapeutic Hypothermia programs.
In addition, Dr. Taneja volunteers his time at the Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, serving as a mentor to students and a committee member for the Doctorate of Nursing Practice program. An instructor for respiratory therapy students at Illinois Central College, he worked to bolster efforts to obtain accreditation for a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, where he serves as a clinical assistant professor of pulmonary/critical care. Having assisted public education efforts on the use of AED and CPR for cardiac arrest, he is currently working to organize a Cardiac Resuscitation Symposium at OSF.
An active volunteer at the Hindu Temple of Central Illinois, Dr. Taneja assists with fundraising for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, Easter Seals’ Passage to India and numerous blood drives at OSF. Through all of these efforts, he has been a role model to colleagues, demonstrating calmness in the face of chaos, a positive attitude and compassion for his patients. iBi
