As Director of Events and Programming for the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, Sherneka G. Cagle manages a broad array of marketing and communications activities, and oversees special programs and events for the organization year-round. Over the last three years, she has successfully coordinated the Community Thanksgiving Day Luncheon, State of the City, State of the Schools and Community Leadership School, in addition to handling the Chamber's marketing and communications publications.
A widely trusted advocate for Greater Peoria and its business community, Cagle meets regularly with local business and organizational leaders to help drive positive change throughout the region. Working closely with the Young Professionals of Greater Peoria and other young professional groups, she is described as a transparent, flexible and uniting force, always able to balance a variety of needs and personalities.
Outside of the Chamber, Cagle is active in a range of community activities—and is particularly dedicated to youth and education. She is one of six founding members of the Quest for Colleges and Careers program, working with juniors and seniors at Quest Charter Academy to offer career and college readiness mentorship opportunities, both inside and outside of the classroom. She is also a Big Sister in the Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters Lunch Buddies program, serving as a strong role model for her “Little.”
As a board member for Neighborhood House and Common Place, Cagle assists with fundraising activities and puts her marketing and communications experience to work on their behalf. She is a vital member of the St. Paul Baptist Church Communications Team, the Peoria Civic Center Sales & Marketing Committee and Midwest Technical Institute’s Professional Advisory Committee. She also enjoys refereeing local basketball games, spending time with friends and family, and traveling.
Whether in her workplace or out in the community, Cagle’s activities clearly demonstrate her lifelong passion for advocacy, education and community service. iBi
