We are committed to delivering outstanding healthcare. Period. Our unwavering goal is to provide you and your family the right care, at the right time, in the right setting, at the right cost, and always with the best possible outcome. One of the ways we do this is through unique specialty clinics and centers staffed by some of the region’s most highly trained and skilled specialists.
Specialists are experienced and expertly skilled in their area of medicine, providing a highly-focused perspective that may be unlike your family provider. When an illness has yet to be fully diagnosed, this is especially valuable. Specialists work with you, analyze symptoms and order necessary tests to help determine the health issue and the best possible care path. Primary care providers work closely with a team of medical specialists to ensure you receive the healthcare you deserve.
The Heart of the Matter
According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year—that’s one in every four deaths. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. Within the cardiology specialty, we’ve focused attention on a number of subspecialties, including advanced heart failure, nuclear cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac-thoracic-vascular surgery, and interventional cardiology. In addition, complete cardiac rehabilitation is available in the Burklund Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, which opened this year with a keen focus on education and prevention, as well as rehabilitation and wellness.
In an instant, our cardiovascular surgical team is prepared to quickly open a blocked artery—well below the standard of care, which is 90 minutes upon arrival at the hospital. Research has shown this ensures the best possible patient outcome, and in some cases, may even prevent a heart attack. At Proctor, the Emergency Department includes an expanded Chest Pain Center, while at Methodist, the Emergency Department is a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level II Trauma Center in Peoria—and one of just 47 in the state of Illinois. UnityPoint Clinic – Cardiovascular Services are available at three locations in Peoria, and at clinics in Pekin and Hopedale.
Helping You Breathe and Sleep Easier
Pulmonology health issues may range from acute bronchitis to cystic fibrosis, emphysema, lung cancer or sleep apnea. Chronic, long-term sleep-related health issues affect millions of Americans each year. These disorders can interfere with work, driving, social activities and overall quality of life—and can have serious health implications. Our comprehensive services are provided on both the Methodist and Proctor campuses. The UnityPoint Clinic – Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Services team has a depth of experience that is second to none.
Targeting the Nervous System
UnityPoint Health – Methodist | Proctor provides comprehensive, coordinated stroke care with advanced facilities located on both of its campuses. Methodist is a certified Primary Stroke Center with The Joint Commission. Additionally, it is an Illinois Department of Public Health Designated Stroke Center and the only local hospital to receive the American Heart Association Silver-Plus Award. Methodist and Proctor emergency departments provide around-the-clock emergency room care from doctors and staff highly trained in delivering life-saving stroke treatment.
UnityPoint Clinic – Neurology provides a wide range of services to evaluate and treat patients with neurological (nerves, brain and spinal cord) and neurosurgical disorders. Neuro-ophthalmology works together with other disciplines in neurology and ophthalmology along with neurosurgery, neuroradiology, rheumatology and infectious disease. Our 20-bed Neuroscience Unit on the Methodist campus offers private rooms and nurses trained to care for patients with neurological and neurosurgical disorders.
Addiction Treatment and Behavioral Health
The Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery on the Proctor campus is synonymous with the highly complex specialty of addiction treatment. The nation’s first chronic pain with addiction treatment program was established here, as was the nation's most comprehensive gambling addiction treatment program. Inpatient/residential and outpatient treatment services are available for adults and adolescents with chemical and/or behavioral addictions.
I’m very proud to say that we offer the most complete mental health services in central Illinois. This includes our UnityPoint Clinic – Psychiatry Center for Senior Behavioral Health, outpatient behavioral health services for all ages, and Adult Partial Hospitalization Program at Methodist.
An Array of Highly Specialized Services
You might be amazed at the expansive level of services and specialty centers we provide—with additional services, like endocrinology, to be added next year. Other specialties include pediatric gastroenterology, perinatology, podiatry, rehabilitation medicine and rheumatology. Specialty centers include the Diabetes Care Center, Comprehensive Pain Center, Senior Health, Sports Medicine, Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, and Women’s Health.
Through unique specialties and centers with some of the finest specialists in the region, our depth of care is designed to provide you the right care, at the right time, in the right setting, at the right cost, with the best possible outcome. That’s who we are, and that’s what we do. iBi
