As the director of Green Building Programs at Illinois Central College, Anthony Corso develops programs and curricula in green building and sustainable development that address the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of buildings and communities. He provides planning input and programmatic facility design for the college’s proposed Sustainability Center, and collaborates with industry stakeholders to develop green job training partnerships.
Corso founded and continues to coordinate the annual Central Illinois Green Expo to educate the public on the benefits of green building and sustainable development. He is ICC’s liaison to the Illinois Green Economy Network, and played a key role in ICC’s selection as one of 20 colleges to host a supported sustainability resource center. He continues to be a leader in promoting regional sustainability as ICC partners with other stakeholders as part of a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Regional Sustainability Planning Grant.
Corso’s knowledge and expertise make him a frequent panelist and presenter on sustainability issues throughout the Midwest, and local media outlets routinely seek him out when in need of an expert to discuss these issues. Through his work with the U.S. Green Building Council Illinois Chapter, Campaign for a Walkable West Bluff and Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, he advocates for urban design guidelines and policy changes to help build more sustainable communities in Peoria and beyond.
As founder of Green Drinks Peoria, Corso started a forum for sustainability discussions based on an international initiative that has grown to include more than 900 cities worldwide. He also works with local individuals and organizations on issues ranging from preservation to local food sources, such as the “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” campaign of the Illinois Stewardship Alliance. Among his numerous awards and recognition, Corso has received the Clean Water Celebration “Making Waves Award” and the American Institute of Architects’ Henry Adams Medal.
Anthony Corso lives, works and breathes sustainability. From his professional career to his personal life, Corso “talks the talk” and “walks the walk” in every aspect of his life. iBi
