Community, Careers and the College

The Illinois Central College David R. Leitch Career Center is doing great things for our students and community members. Career Services staff worked with more than 4,000 people last year. Students and community members come in daily for assistance with their job searches, resume writing and selecting a major or career.

Career Services maintains an online job system for full- and part-time jobs for students and alumni. College Central Network offers students and alumni a way to post their resume online for employers to search. Students can get part-time jobs while attending classes, and alumni can search for full-time positions after graduation.

The Career Services office is available to non-student groups as well. Community members are welcome to take advantage of the monthly career exploration in addition to resume and interview workshops, resume critique and assistance, and career assessments. Career Services also facilitates a large job fair each year. This event traditionally brings 70-plus employers to campus, as well as more than 1,500 job searchers. There is no charge for any of these services to our community.

Last year, the Career Center piloted an exciting experience for all District 150 eighth graders. After working with district administration, Career Services staff developed a program that allows all of the district’s eighth graders to come to ICC for a day of career exploration. They learned about programs in agriculture and industrial technologies, and took a tour of WoodView Commons. Last year, over 1,000 eighth graders were able to visit our campus and begin thinking about their future career choices. Due to the overall success of the program, Career Services staff is excited to be working with more eighth graders this year.

As you can see, the Career Center is making a positive impact on our community. The staff works with people who are searching for their first jobs, as well as those who have lost their jobs. Staff members help young junior high students to begin thinking about careers and help adults who are re-entering the workforce. The Illinois Central College David R. Leitch Career Center is open from 8am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. The office can be reached at 694-5153. IBI
