Peoria Players Theatre celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2018—one of the oldest community theaters in the nation. Last fall’s production of Rock of Ages, a musical directed by Chip Joyce, transported the audience back to the Sunset Strip of the 1980s—when big hair and pop metal ruled the land and rock n’ roll fairy tales still came true. Can an aspiring rock star save the Strip from being turned into just another strip mall? The answer came in a burst of song and dance, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the renovation of the Players’ building, its home since 1957.
