Wildlife Prairie Park has been a family favorite since it opened its gates in 1978, a gift from philanthropists Bill and Hazel Rutherford. Located just outside of Peoria in Hanna City, its 2,000 acres are home to more than 150 native animals, as well as summer camps, festivals, and unique special events. In addition to a multitude of recreational opportunities—from miles of hiking and biking trails to fishing and disc golf—its sculpture walk features more than 30 statues and sculptures. Check out the Prairie Zephyr train ride and the playground’s 60-foot slide, and consider staying the night in one of its unique lodging options, from cabins and tent camping to a real Santa Fe train caboose!
