Hair and Now

The stick-straight styles of last year are gone, and back are voluminous locks and lush hair. The only thing you have to be wary of is ensuring that your hair looks natural, full, and smooth-and not rigid and wig-like. There are guidelines to remember when styling your hair and pumping up the volume.

First of all, too much styling product can weigh the hair down and defeat the whole purpose. The less product you use, the less there is weighing your hair down. Also, you need to be careful about how much volume you have: it should be in relation to hair height. For example, a short cut shouldn't be as voluminous as a long cut. If you employ teasing in your regime, keep it limited to the crown to avoid ratty-looking hair. And finally, the latest craze of bangs can look great with voluminous hair; just make sure that they look soft. Swept to the side usually looks best.

Still clueless about how to make your hair look full? Step by step, the process isn't hard. When you wash your hair, lightweight conditioners are the best, and they're only necessary on your ends. Conditioner weighs the hair down and makes it harder to pump up your hair. After towel drying, apply a volumizing spray or gel to hair and comb through. Dry your hair while massaging your roots until hair is damp.

Blow-dry your hair in sections starting at the bottom. Always blow dry in the same direction as the hair, especially focusing on the roots. The bottom sections should be wrapped around a large round brush and dried, while the top layers should be done the same way except pulled up and away from the head.

To add even more volume, wrap each section around Velcro rollers and pull them toward your face. Let them cool for about 10 minutes, flip your head, and shake your hair at the roots with your fingers. Use a shine spray or gloss, and smooth the palms of your hands over your hair.
Voluminous hair is sexy and natural, and when done right, the look can be great no matter what type of hair you have. Whether it's the beginning of the day or the end, or whether it's a casual get-together or a formal fete, full hair looks great all the time. TPW
