Booking travel online can be overwhelming and confusing. If you don’t do your research and have to cancel at the last minute, you risk losing your money, or worse—arriving at your destination to discover your five-star accommodations don’t live up to the online depiction. Enter Peoria Charter Travel, now with three locations in Peoria, Morton and Normal.

For nearly eight decades, those familiar Peoria Charter Coach buses have been operating in central Illinois, transporting passengers all over the region in comfort and style. The family-owned business has passed through four generations, gaining the trust of travelers near and far. Since 2015, that trust has been conferred to Peoria Charter Travel, which continues to grow.

Morton-based ToGoAway Travel recently joined the Peoria Charter family of businesses. In the fall of 2018, Dennis and Cheryl Sohn, owners of the 25-year-old agency, reached out to Peoria Charter Travel owners Bill and Cindy Winkler to see if they were interested in expanding into Morton. After several months of negotiations, the transaction became a reality on April 1, 2019—offering Tazewell County residents the same convenient access to travel services while retaining ToGoAway Travel’s long-time employees.

“The trend to book with a locally-owned company—who will be around before, during and after travels—is on the rise,” says Charter Representative Mike Mehl. “The confidence and free assistance offered by travel agents is more appealing than ever in this impersonal, online booking world we’ve grown accustomed to.” PM
