Are Your Tresses in Distress?

For many of us, summertime means a change in daily life. Spending time in the hot summer sun, barbeques with friends, family vacations, and taking the kids to the pool are some of the many activities synonymous with summer months. Unfortunately, these activities can leave your hair in desperate need of some tender loving care as summer draws to a close. That's where a visit to your stylist can help.

Along with a golden tan and brighter colors of clothing for summer, many people choose to make their hair color a little lighter for summer. Others spend a lot of time worshiping the summer sun and cooling off with a dip in a swimming pool. The combination of chemical processing, overexposure to the sun, and chlorine can do a number on your hair, leaving it feeling dry and looking lifeless and dull. The good news is help is just a phone call away. Your hair stylist can provide you with a customized hair treatment to get your hair back to feeling and looking healthy, shiny, and full of life.

The first step in restoring your hair to its healthy state is to discuss with your stylist what problems you're having, and he or she can diagnose the causes of your hair distress and determine the best method of treatment for you. Many types of in-salon hair treatments exist, and, often, a custom blended mixture of treatments is required.

REDKEN recently developed a unique chemistry system that uses advanced technology to meet the specialized needs of clients. There are four components to the system that offer solutions to common hair problems through highly concentrated ingredients and a pH rebalancing system. The four components are targeted to provide specific solutions to problems with hair strength, color protection, softness, and frizz control. The treatments within this chemistry system provide immediate results that are noticeable after just one treatment. These treatments require minimal time and can typically be done simultaneously with a cut or color service, although advance notice may be necessary to allow your stylist to book the proper amount of time for your appointment.

Another common hair problem in summer is chlorine damage. Chlorine can cause your hair to feel slimy when wet and brittle when dry. It can also affect the color of your hair, lightening hair that's colored or leaving a greenish tint on light blonde hair. For this type of problem, a clarifying treatment may be required to get the unwanted chlorine out of your hair. A treatment such as PreArt by REDKEN will do just that. It's a treatment done in the salon to get all of the chlorine and other impurities out of hair so it can be restored to a healthy state.

Healthy hair is easier to manage and style. Your stylist can determine what type of treatments may be necessary to make your hair look and feel soft, shiny, and healthy again. The benefits of in-salon treatments can be further enhanced by using professional products on your hair at home. Ask your stylist what products he or she recommends for your daily cleansing, conditioning, and styling routine.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer; back to school is just around the corner. TPW
