Roberta Van Zant, DO

A physician at the Methodist Center for Integrative Medicine, Dr. Roberta Van Zant practices functional and integrative medicine that uses both conventional medicine and evidence-based complementary treatments to help people achieve and maintain lifelong wellness, focusing on a healthy lifestyle, nutrition and disease prevention. She has greatly improved the quality of life of her patients and the general public through her tireless leadership in health education.

Dr. Van Zant demonstrated her leadership skills early on when she was elected class vice president during her first year of medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, Texas. After completing her degree and residency, she was the first graduate of the women’s health fellowship program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, where she was appointed assistant director of the program. She also serves as faculty of the Family Practice residency program, founded and was sole instructor for a women’s health clinic at the residency program, and has served on numerous other committees.

Continually finding ways to educate and give back to the community, Dr. Van Zant has given over 25 scholarly presentations and has focused on providing women with preventative health information. She has taught in a variety of settings, from Sunday School to a weekly segment on WMBD-TV, and she recently initiated a group in Morton to advocate a full-day kindergarten. She has participated in the Northwoods Community Church Sisterhood leadership team and participates in their hospital visitation team.

Dr. Van Zant has received many honors, such as the Aventis Family Medicine Residents Scholarship and the AstraZeneca Scholarship. During medical school, she received the Student Government Association Award for service and dedication to the student body, was included in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and was the recipient of the TCOM Alumni Association Award for leadership.

Dr. Roberta Van Zant’s advanced training, unique knowledge set and leadership skills have added a new dimension to medical care in central Illinois. She truly believes in what she is doing, and it shows in her work. Her efforts and dedication to improving the culture of Methodist Medical Group serves as a model for physician leadership in the organization. iBi
