Social Connections for Seniors
Research links social isolation and loneliness to higher risks for high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, a weakened immune system, anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease and even death.
Right at Home, which offers home healthcare services to seniors and disabled adults, is starting a free Social Connections Program to ensure homebound people feel a little less lonely. Their caregivers want to remind the elderly population they’re not alone and give them an opportunity to chat with someone. They will call homebound individuals and see how they are doing, providing a calming reassurance that somebody cares.
To register for the free program, call (309) 327-0808. Individuals do not need to be an existing client to sign up. PM
