Changing Platforms in High-Speed Internet

Internet platforms and services are changing constantly to offer the newest and latest in faster speeds and features. One inspiring technological change is the new standard called ADSL2+.

ADSL2+ is a high-speed Internet service that increases the usable frequency band on the telephone line to pack more data and do it more efficiently. The result is triple the speeds attainable by most ADSL platforms using standards such as G.dmt and T1.413. Current download connection speed options for ADSL2+ are in the 4 megabits per second range, with around an 800Kbps upload connection.

ADSL2+ enables a business to get these rapid speeds at much lower costs than a cable or SDSL offering. Another impressive feature for the typical business network is the ability to utilize true static IP addressing with this service at such a low cost. Businesses use static IPs for different scenarios, such as to build their own secure network with virtual private network (VPN) technologies and to be able to connect to outside databases, systems, and applications.

The capability for future bandwidth increases also is viable with ADSL2+. It provides a method for ADSL pair bonding where two connections can be bonded to get up to 48 megabits per second of download bandwidth. Another enhancement due out by the fourth quarter is ANNEX M, which provides up to 2 to 3 megabits per second of upstream capacity. This would provide service with both faster download and upload speeds than the T1 service used by many companies today.

New technologies in the telecommunications field continue to evolve, and DSL continues to offer a reliable and cost-effective solution not only for residential users, but also meets the many needs and applications for businesses. IBI
