About Face
By now I’m sure you’re all aware of the dangerous effects of the sun and other environmental pollutants on our skin. And just in case you haven’t heard, there are a number of steps you can take to prevent future problems with your skin. Some of the problems I’m referring to are fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes, dry or oily skin, and even certain types of cancers.

If you’re concerned about your skin and want to take preventative measures, the most important things you can do are to talk to a professional and to make a commitment to always use sunscreen. After a thorough consultation with a skin-care professional, there are a few different steps that can be taken, many of which include an at-home skin care regimen.

Facials are also a great way to address problem skin. The first step of a facial is a skin analysis, which determines what skin problems may need to be addressed. This is the time you should express any concerns to your skin care professional. After the analysis, your skin will be cleansed and a toner, a product used to balance the pH of the skin, is applied. After the toner aplication, your pores are opened with steam. This process is very relaxing, but also extremely beneficial. The steam allows the pores to open, making way for the extraction process, or the cleaning out of the pores.

Now it’s time for the best part of any facial, the massage. A series of gentle tapping, kneading, and stroking movements will be applied to your face. This is the perfect time to relax and enjoy the process. At the close of the massage, a mask is usually applied. This mask helps to seal in the moisturizer that’s been used. Usually after a few minutes, the mask is removed and your facial is complete.

The combination of basic at-home skin care maintenance, a regular facial, and proper UV protection can help promote healthy skin. Good skin care will prove to be beneficial, and you’ll find it also can be relaxing. tpw
