Pregnancy and Back Pain
Like most pregnant women, you do everything you can to take care of yourself and the miracle that's to become your child. Inevitably, with all of the postural stresses and hormonal changes that can cause ligamentous laxity, back pain can occur. When it hits, there's very little women typically believe can be done for their pain. Many, correctly, aren't willing to take any form of medication and jeopardize their developing fetus. The back pain that occurs not only can be debilitating, but can cause nerve interference that may lead to an entire other set of problems-not only with mom, but possibly with her soon-to-be-child.

Many professionals have observed that chiropractic spinal care helps not only with the pregnant woman's pain, but may help maintain a healthy pregnancy. Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to reduce symptoms such as vomiting, help deliver full-term infants with ease, and produce healthier infants. Chiropractic treatment during pregnancy is also shown to reduce premature contractions and back labor.

Chiropractic simply and non-invasively looks at the spine in the way it functions. The function of the spine is to move, bear weight, and do so while protecting the spinal cord and the nerves that exit from between each of the freely moveable vertebrae. If the bones and joints become misaligned, they can put pressure on or irritate these nerves. This nerve irritation can cause pain and lead to nerve stress. This nerve stress interrupts the brain's ability to coordinate function to wherever that nerve ultimately reaches. So we see not only pain, but also loss of normal organ function.

In the case of the developing fetus, this can be serious. These misalignments are called "subluxations" and are what chiropractors are trained to detect and correct naturally, without the risks of drugs or medications. For the expecting mother, this is ideal. Chiropractic care can rid her of pain or other symptoms that may come with pregnancy, while also improving the function of her body for the best possible outcome for the new baby.

It makes sense to consider less invasive methods that can help improve the function of your body. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact a doctor of chiropractic. TPW
