The place hasn’t even opened to the public yet, but a world record has already been set at Sankoty Lakes Resort & Retreat, the outdoor camping, nature and recreation destination under development in Spring Bay. On September 9 and 10, professional fisherman Jeff Kolodzinski broke his own record for the most fish caught in a 24-hour period, while raising more than $20,000 for Fishing for Life, a nonprofit serving youth, families, veterans and communities through fishing and outdoor programs.

The new record must be certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, but that is likely considering he caught a staggering 2,645 fish—shattering his earlier milestone of 2,172 at Canton’s Giant Goose Ranch in 2019. Kolodzinski, a seven-time member of the U.S. team for the Freshwater Fishing World Championship, caught more than 1.8 fish per minute—that’s 110 per hour. He believes 3,000 fish is within reach during next year’s attempt, which he intends to dedicate to those who sacrificed in relation to the attacks of September 11, 2001, as the 20th anniversary of that tragedy approaches.

Kolodzinski had high praise for Sankoty Lakes, one of nearly 20 projects underway through developer Kim Blickenstaff’s KDB Group. “Sankoty is mind-blowing, and it’s not even done yet,” he says. “The word is going to get out, and everybody is going to want to be a part of this.” PM
